Installing the LED webcam

The LED webcam installation is not much different to our other webcams, but the drivers are slightly different. This guide shows you what you ought to see if you're installing the LED webcam on your computer. We've used a Vista PC here, but it'll be much the same if you're running XP.

First, if you need to download the drivers please click below:

Download Drivers for LED webcam

The download is a zipped file (.zip) so you'll have to unzip it, then run Setup.exe to start the installation process.

1. If you insert the CD, you'll be asked if you want to Run SETUP.exe. Choose this option. Do not plug the webcam in yet, you have to install the drivers first.

start run setup

2. Click Next

click next

3. Select the Folder you want to install the drivers on (just leave it as it is if you don't know what you're doing) and press Next.

select location

4. That completes the installation. Press 'Close' and plug in the webcam.

finish

5. On Vista, you'll get this message below :

do you want to install the driver?

Click "Install the driver software anyway"

6. Windows then installs the drivers for you. On Vista, you'll get these messages -

driver device found

compliance

7. To test the webcam, click Start > All Programmes > JPEG PC Camera > VideoCap

start > programs > JPG PC Camera > VideoCap

8. This will open a window and you should see something like the following, depending on what your camera is facing:

Troubleshooting

  • Most webcam problems are driver-related, so if the webcam doesn't work first time around it's not a bad idea to try uninstalling and re-installing the drivers again.

To do this, run setup.exe again from the CD and then choose to uninstall the drivers. Restart your computer and run the setup again from step 1.

  • Try plugging the webcam into a different USB port if it won't work the first time.

  • If your picture is not focused, you'll have to rotate the rim of the lens slowly. It can take some time to get a sharp picture

  • Make sure you are sitting in a well-lit room for the best possible picture quality.

  • If you're running other programs that are trying to access the webcam, Videocap won't work. Try to close other programs (you might have to look in Task Manager to get rid of others)
  • See my full troubleshooting guide here
